Barry Tower, President

Barry joined what was then Christopher & Long in the summer of 1980. He quickly established a significant client base through his remarkable persistence and communication skills. Barry is a native of Tonawanda, New York and retains an intense loyalty to his Bills and Sabres.

A collegiate swimmer, Barry is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, MO and married since 1977 with three sons.

Zach Carruthers, Vice President

Zach joined HCap in 2002. Before joining HCap Zach held operational and business development positions for a successful dot.com. Zach holds an Economics degree from the University of Missouri. His hobbies include golf, competitive sailing and alpine skiing. He and his wife enjoy their lakeside cottage at Lake Lotawana.

Mark Tapko, Vice President

Mark’s insurance career began in 1982 with Federated Mutual Insurance Company. After 13 years as a claims specialist, Mark has leveraged his industry knowledge with C & L/HCap Search since 1995. Mark received an athletic scholarship to play Junior College basketball, where he earned an Associate in Arts degree. He received his Bachelors in Science from the University of Missouri – Columbia. He’s been married since 1986 and has three sons.

Gary Abram, Managing Partner

Gary’s search career dates back to 1979 when he joined Christopher & Long after professional baseball, coaching and teaching, and insurance. Subsequently, he formed his own search firm called Partners Group and later had a corporate gig as EVP-Development for the largest domestic freight forwarder, EGL. Gary started HCap International in early 2001 and now it has fifteen partners, as well as HCap Search.

Gary is also a colleague of Scott Addis as Director of Agency Transformation for Beyond Insurance, a consulting company specializing in organic growth strategies for independent agencies.

Dave Flanders, President, Christopher & Long

Dave joined Christopher & Long in 1973 after graduating from the University of Missouri and a stint with Allstate Insurance as a Human Resource Manager. Quickly mastering the search business, ownership made Dave the President of C & L in 1976. Dave continues the leadership role while innovating new strategies within IT search.

Dave has been married for 32 years, has two daughters, and became a grandfather in 2009.
